| Thirteen Things about The Holidays
1…. A holiday by any other name: would still be as fun. Yule,
Christmas, Hanukkah are all celebrated around this time. So why
does it matter what name we call it. If someone wishes you a
Happy whatever thank them and wish them the same…
2…. Families: Families come in all shapes and sizes, some we
love, some we tolerate and others we wonder if they were adopted.
But put all that aside this time of your grin and bare it.
3….GIFTS: This is one of the hardest things for me this time of
year. I came from a family that made gift giving a big part of the
holidays and that’s rubbed off on to me as an adult saddly. For me
this season is about the coming of the Light that is in the New Year
by giving gifts we are spreading that light among our friends and
Families. But gifts don’t have to be expensive or big, it is the
meaning behind them that matters
4….Travel: A number of years ago I had the opportunity to travel
over the holidays. Personally I didn’t like it, looking back at it all it
wasn’t the same being away from friends and family. So between
the nightmares that are the airports this time of year and the
stress of traveling it’s just not worth it.
5….Traditions: There are so many different traditions that surround
this time of year some from your faith, some from family, and ever
some with friends. Remember traditions can change and grow, don’t
let yourself get locked in the past.
6….Friends: It is as important to spend with friends this time of year
as it is to spend time with Family. After all good friends are the
family we have chosen for ourselves.
7….Food: The average person gains about 8 – 10 pounds over the
holiday season. You might as well enjoy it, You can work it off in
January
8….Holiday Music: Wait until after December 1 at the earliest.
9….Holiday Decorations: Wait until after December 1 at the earliest.
You don’t have to go over the top with decorations, and it is not a
competition.
10..Holiday Depression: The holidays bring up a lot of different
memories for different people and not all of them are good. Keep
that in mind when your out spreading holiday cheer, some people
may just not want it. Be supportive for them in whatever way they
need and that you can offer.
11..Share: if you have something extra this time of year share it with
someone who doesn’t. It can be money, food, time, whatever, just
give back something. Make a competition out of it at work and
encourage everyone to take part.
12..The Enviroment: This time of year of cards, wrapping paper,
travel and everything else, we need to take the time to remember
the planet and keep that in mind. Instead of wrapping use reusable
gift bags, make your gift tags out of old Christmas card. Do what
you can to reduce, Reuse and recycle.
13.. Enjoy them: Life is to short and if there is a time of the year
to have a good time and spread good cheer and joy this is it. |
